01 -  Boil penne pasta in salted water following package instructions until al dente. Drain thoroughly and set aside. 
 02 -  In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine crushed tomatoes, garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes. 
 03 -  Add cream cheese to the tomato base. Stir continuously until fully melted and sauce appears smooth. 
 04 -  Transfer drained pasta to the saucepan and toss to coat evenly in sauce. Fold in grated Parmesan cheese. 
 05 -  Serve hot. Garnish with extra Parmesan cheese or fresh basil if desired.
